The Ashleys bend knot is used to join two ends of rope.
History
The Ashley's bend is created by the great Clifford Ashley, author of the Ashley Book of Knots. Ashley, however, was not the one who named the bend. Ashley left the knot unnamed. The naming was done by Cyrus L. Day, who published a knot book in 1947.
Remarks
The Ashleys bend works well with slippery material and has no tendency to slip. In a test done by Ashley himself, where a lot of knots were tested for security using slippery materials, this bend was one of the few that did not slip at all.
After being loaded heavily the Ashleys Bend might jam and will become hard to untie.
