The Bachmann hitch is a climbing hitch. The carabiner acts as a handle which can be used to break the hitch and reposition it.

History

The Bachmann knot was invented by the Austrian Alpine climber Franz Bachmann.

Remarks

Do not use the carabiner as a tie-in point, but attach the climbing harness to the Prusik loop.
It is recommended to let the gate of the carabiner face down to minimize the risk of unclipping.
